Eligibility
To be eligible for consideration an organization must:
- Qualify as an IRS 501(c)3 non-profit organization and not be classified as a private foundation
- Have a clear mission, be effectively organized, provide a needed service to its target population, be able to provide evidence of delivery of services and show evidence of the impact on the recipients
- Be accessible and open to all segments of the community
- Serve the community, hire agency staff and elect board members without discrimination based on gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age, religion, national origin or physical disability
The following are not eligible for consideration of a grant:
- Salaries or personnel requests (unless directly related to sustainability of the organization)
- Annual meetings, conferences or conventions, field trips, tours or travel expenses (unless demonstrated as integral to program)
- Individuals, individual sponsorships, individual scholarships or tuition assistance
- Association or membership dues
- Donor advised funds, foundations or personal trusts
- "Pass Through" grants or third party fundraisers
- Private schools
- Athletic teams, booster clubs or social groups
- Fraternal organizations
- Political parties, organizations, candidates, campaigns or events
- Government or public agencies (excluding school districts)
- Organizations primarily promoting religious activities; requiring participants to be of a certain faith to participate in programs or receive services, or delivering services with prayer, proselytizing or other specific religious activities
- Organizations that discriminate on the basis of gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age, religion, national origin or physical disability
- National organizations (unless they have a major presence in the local communities TBMF funds and those funds stay in those communities)
- Individual schools (unless an individual school is requesting funding for pilot/new programs that have the potential to expand district-wide)
- Organizations that target a specific medical disease (unless there is a large impact on the local population)
Although an organization may meet all of the eligibility requirements, that alone does not guarantee approval. Approval and denial of grant requests is at the sole discretion of the TBMF Board.
Organizations that are new to the TBM Foundation and believe they have the potential to promote systems change in education, health or human services are welcome to contact the Executive Director to determine eligibility for a Planning or Implementation grant prior to submitting a grant (see contact information).
